ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Religious education is an educational system encompassing all aspects of life needed by our children to increase their religious internalization and practice in their society, religion, nation and state. Religious education is also a form of guidance for pupils to help them understand, live and practice the teachings of Islam and make it as their world view in living their lives in the world and in the hereafter.
We consider Islamic religious education as physical and spiritual guidance given to children based on the Qur’an to help them attain a perfect Muslim personality. In order to have a noble character, it is expected for these children to focus their attention to religious-based lessons as a means of controlling their life.
Theology curriculum have four major subjects as shown below:
Quran, Lugha, Fiqh and Tarbia.
QURAN:
The Quran is the holy book of Muslim Ummah for guidance. At Tawhiid Islamic Nursery and primary School we categorize this subject into 4 sub-subjects, Tilaawa (Quran recitation), Hifthu (Quran memorization), Tajiweed (intonation of Quran) and Tafsiir (Quran translation). The word Quran means recitation and its verses are recited by Muslims throughout the world. Qualified Sheikh and Sheikhat help the pupils to relate to the Book.
Muslims understand that Islam and the Holy book Quran is a complete package that tells us how to spend our lives in the best manner. The life Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) reflects the teachings of Quran and Allah.
At Tawhiid Islamic Nursery and Primary School we take the age of three to be the best age for the child to begin memorizing the Qur’an. We memorize only the first two Juzu taking them step by step until the completion of the primary level journey. This is when the child’s scope of interests is still narrow. At this stage the child’s determination is strong and so is the desire to memorize the Qur’an. These Juzu help to shape the child’s character.
At age five our children will have attained proper pronunciation. This is also the time when the child’s memory is strong and his mind is pure. The child is mentally prepared to receive and memorize whatever knowledge s/he is taught. As old saying states “Memorizing while young is like carving into a rock.” That which is carved into a rock cannot easily be removed; rather, it remains as the years pass.
LUGHA:
Lugha is dialect, idiom, language, expression, word, jargon, lingo, vernacular, term. It is a subject that deals with the Arabic language. At Tawhiid Islamic Nursery and Primary School we teach reading (Kiraa-a), writing (Kitaaba), spelling (Imra) and grammar (Nahawi). The Quran is based in the Arabic language, with Lugha our pupils can read, understand and recite the Quran with ease. Our pupils learn Arabic as another language which is an added advantage in life.
FIQH:
The word fiqh is an Arabic term meaning “deep understanding” or “full comprehension”. It is the general knowledge and the science of Islamic laws, judgment, healthy science of humanity and environment. This lesson exposes our children on what the Muslim must know and refrain from; what he cannot afford to be unaware of regarding acts of worship, interactions with others, customs and traditions, clothing, food, medicine, and everything that encompasses the day to day life.
Fiqh is the field of Islamic study which is designed to prepare pupils to recognize, appreciate and practice the Islamic law, which later becomes the basis of life view through the activities of counseling, instruction, training and experience practice. It is a discipline which regulates, directs and manages the behaviors of Muslims. It is also called the knowledge of rights and liabilities of a person.
At Tawhiid Islamic and Nursery School, we commit to a step-by-step study of fiqh. We begin with the rules related to purification, prayer, zakat and fasting; then move on to the rules concerning marriage, buying and selling; and other relevant areas of fiqh as human needs dictate.
Along with learning basic acts of worship (‘ibadat) and social dealings (mu‘amalat), our pupils learn the rights and responsibilities (huquq) owed by us to others: be it to Allah; the Prophet, peace be upon him; parents and relatives; other Muslims; non-Muslims; the animal world; or the Earth itself. Pupils also study a text which outlines the major sins, as well as learn basic Qur’an recitation (tajwid).
TARBIA:
These are the verbal and non-verbal sayings and deeds of Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him, they are mainly give us detailed and clear explanation as well as guidance of verses from Quran.
Tarbia as a subject in our curriculum is categorized into 3 sub subjects, which are:
HADITH: (the sayings of Prophet Muhammad PBUH), SIIRA: (the history of Islam), TAWHIID (the oneness of Allah/God).
Tarbia is an Arabic word that means development, increase, growth, and loftiness. In Islam it means the development and the training of people in various aspects. At Tawhiid Islamic Nursery and Primary School we teach Tarbia to impart the systematic development and training of our pupils in the light of Islamic teachings. It is a continuous and comprehensive process of developing all aspects of our pupils’ character and personality, i.e. spiritual, intellectual, moral, social and physical aspects.
The real aim of Tarbia is to develop Taqwa (fear of God) and to put all our pupils on the path of constant self-purification, self-correction and self-development; and instil in them the passion for truth, righteousness, justice and respect for others. We focus on Tarbia to build pupils who are distinguished, strive for excellence, are self-motivated, conduct a balance life, live in peace with themselves and their environment. Tarbia prepares our pupils to be equipped with the necessary knowledge, understanding, and skills to make difference in the society by taking an active role in the reform process that seeks to make the betterment of our community, our country and the entire world. The full impact of Tarbia is truly realised when parents, pupils, staff and other stakeholders all work cohesively together.
At Tawhiid Islamic and Nursery School, we have a whole person development solution. We nurture our young leaders as whole beings: body mind, heart and spirit.
